Buttermilk Pie

To give this pie a unique flavor I added some orange extract. Of course, it is just as delicious without the orange extract. Buttermilk pie is like a custard/pudding.

Preheat oven: 450°F

1 unbaked 9-inch pie crust

1/2 cup butter, melted and cooled
1 cup sugar
1/2 cup all-purpose flour
3 large eggs
1½ cups buttermilk
1 teaspoon vanilla
3/4 teaspoon orange extract (optional)

  • Add all the ingredients to a medium mixing bowl and together until well mixed.
  • Pour into the unbaked pie shell and bake for 10 minutes at 450°F then drop the oven temperature to 325°F and continue to cook for 30-40 minutes longer or until lightly browned and the middle is set.

Cool for about 20-30 minutes (room temperature) on rack before cutting.

Hi Liz: Happy July 4rth. That pie looks scrumptious. I adore buttermilk and use it a lot in cooking. I always soak chicken in it. We might see a tiny bit less rain today! Have fun. HUGS
