Freddo Snowman

This little snowman can be use as a refrigerator magnet, a hanging ornament, etc.

“Freddo” Snowman 

Materials:

Size F crochet hook

Small amounts of 4-ply worsted weight yarn-white, black, red, orange

Yarn needle

2 craft eyes or do a French knot for the eyes

2 small buttons

Head:

Make an adjustable ring (details here).

Round 1:  Sc 6 times into ring (6) (place marker at beg. of round and move marker when each round is completed.)

Round 2: ch 1, 2 sc in ea sc around (12 sc).  Sl st in first sc, to join.

Round 3: ch 1, (sc in next sc, 2 sc in next sc) around (18 sc). Sl st in first sc, to join.

Round 4: ch 1, (sc in ea of next 2 sc, 2 sc in next sc) around (24 sc). Sl st in first sc, to join.

Round 5:  ch 1, (sc in ea of next 3 sc, 2 sc in next sc) around (30 sc). Sl st in first sc, to join.   DO NOT FASTEN-OFF.  Ch 1 turn

Body:

Row 1:  1 sc in each of next 7 sc (head).  Ch 1, turn.

Row 2:  2 sc in 1st sc (increase), sc in each of next 5 sc, 2 sc in last sc (increase) (9 sc).  Ch 1, turn.

Rows 3-5:  Repeat Row 2 having 2 increases each row.  At the end of row 5 you should have 15 sc. Ch 1, turn.

Row 6:  Sc in each sc across. Ch 1, turn (15 sc).

Row 7:  Insert hook in  first st, yo, pull through (2 lps on hook), insert hook in next st, yo, pull through (3 lps on hook), yo, draw through all 3 loops (decrease st), sc in next 11 sc, in remaining 2 sc decrease (13 sc).  Ch 1, turn.

Row 8:  Sc in each sc across.  Ch 1, turn (13 sc).

Rows 9 & 10:  Repeat Rows 6 & 7 (11 sc).

Rows 11-13:  Repeat Row 7 having 5 sc across at the end of Row 13.  DO NOT FASTEN OFF.

Finishing:  3 sc in corner, 1 sc in each row on side of snowman, sc in each sc around head, sc in each row on other side of snowman, 3 sc in corner, sc in bottom 5 sc, sl st to center of first corner made.  Fasten off.

Scarf:  Do a ch st around neck under face (9 chs).  When you get to the end, ch 16, sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch (15 sc).  Repeat running chain below the previous one to the end.  Fasten off.

Nose:  Ch 5.  Sc in second ch from hook, hdc in next ch, 1 dc in each of the remaining 2 chs.   Sew side seam to form carrot nose.  Sew to center of face.

Hat:
Row 1:  Ch 14.  Hdc in 3rd ch from hook and in each remaining ch (12 hdc). Ch 1 turn.

Row 2: Sl st in each of next 4 hdc, ch 2 hdc in sp at bottom of ch, hdc in each of next 4 hdc; ch 2, turn (6 hdc).

Row 3: Hdc in sp in bottom of ch and in next hdc, 2 hdc in next, hdc in next hdc, 2 hdc in next hdc, hdc in each of remaining 2 hdc (9 hdc). Ch 1, turn.

Row 4: Sl st in first hdc, sc in each of next 7 hdc, sl st in last hdc. Fasten off.  With black, sew hat to head. *See photo for placement.

For the mouth, do a straight stitch or use French knots.  Add eyes of your choice.  Sew two buttons to snowman’s body.
