When Brian was first born, Carrie and I took him to mass in this tiny little Catholic Chapel. It was a Candlelight Mass. It was beautiful. This tiny chapel has all the original pews, altar, etc. I have always wanted to take a picture of this church and Sunday I had the opportunity to do just that.
In 1840, Our Lady Star Of The Sea became the 6th parish founded in Georgia. In 1847, the members acquired this former bank building and converted it into their parish church. Fulfilling the vision of Catholics who had been meeting since early 1800, it served as the parish church for over 100 years until a new church was built in 1958 on land deeded to the Catholics by the City of St. Marys in 1826. This chapel is still in use and maintained by the parish for special occasions.
