I Made Boat Anchors

I made wheat bread today but it came out too dense and heavy and didn’t rise well even though I used vital wheat gluten.  My yeast was ok.-doesn’t expire until 2010. My bread flour was the culprit of my failed attempt. I know this because I made cheese bread the other day using the same bread flour and they also came out too dense and heavy and didn’t rise too well. I use a lot of all-purpose flour and very little bread flour. I don’t know when the last time it was that I used the bread flour. I store it in a large plastic container and didn’t have the sack to check on the expiration date. Oh, well. Live and learn as they say.

  1. Hi Liz! I just thought i would pop in and see how you’ve been. That’s a shame about the flour being outdated and you went to all that trouble. I know i always have to check my ddates too.
    It’s a lot cooler up here today and the wind was whipping everything around quite fiercely. (is that a word? lol)
    I bet you are glad to get the house back and sit back and relax and do what you want to do.
    The picture of your hubby and the boys is just precious. You can see the love between them.


  2. Hi Liz: I’ve never used bread flour. I always use regular flour. I’ve not had cheese bread in years and I love it. We’re getting a bit of a storm today. Have a great day. HUGS BTW, could I “borrow” your cheese bread recipe? (-:
