How Much Is A Trillion?

A Trillion Dollars can buy all the stock in Microsoft, Wal-Mart, Coca-cola, Pepisco, Time Warner, Google and Apple Computer combined with 23 Billion Dollars left over!

A Trillion Dollars is a stack of 20 dollar bills 3,000 miles high!

If you had $1 trillion and you spent it at a rate of $1 per second, it would take you 31,709 years to go broke.

One trillion is 1,000,000,000,000 — 10 to the 12th power, or a thousand thousand thousand thousand. To put things in perspective, current estimates put the number of stars in the Milky Way as somewhere between 100 and 400 billion. The U.S. population is slightly over 303 million, and the world population is around 6.6 billion.

One trillion dollars would be enough to buy about a thousand boxes of Girl Scout cookies for every person in the United States. A trillion barrels of oil would (at current consumption levels) fuel the world for about 33 years. -Author David M. Schwartz, Science Friday; February 8, 2008

CNN asks a Temple University mathematics professor how much $1 trillion actually is.

Our Gross National Debt is almost $11 trillion.

American workers now net almost 30 percent less in real wages than they did in 1973. After taxes, two paychecks in a family barely equal the purchasing power one had thirty years ago.

  1. Thanks for this post. It really puts the stimulus package in perspective. You’d think it would be difficult to outdo the universe itself but we have risen to new levels of insanity with this one.

    Thanks again.

  2. Hi Liz I heard this too on Fox news. It’s terrible I am very against the bail out. I heard today the spending went up last month. I think we should just let the economy heal it’s self and add some regulations where necc. I find this to be very scary I was just reading the list and it makes me want to puke there is not much in the package that will stimulate the economy. It’s a bunch of stuff for the government! same as always they are going to live like kings while we live like poppers.
I have never wanted to scream at the TV as hard as I have these past few months! I did call in. That’s about all I can do as a citizen. Have a nice day sweetie.big hugs

  3. Hi, Liz. So glad you posted this. That last bit really makes it seem real to me. We have deluded ourselves that things are the same, but actually it is because women are working so much more than they did. When I was young, we expected to work for a short time then stay home with our families. I did stay home when mine were preschoolers but needed that second income for security so returned to school, and it’s a good thing I did. All this is so scary when you think about our children’s futures.
