French Fried Onion Rings

We made French fried onion rings for no particular reason.

French Fried Onions

I sliced one large onion into thin slices. Then I soaked these slice in buttermilk, in the refrigerator, for a few hours.

Into a large bowl I mixed 2 cups of all-purpose flour, 2 teaspoons salt, 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder, 1/2 teaspoon each cayenne pepper, paprika and black pepper.

Get your hot oil ready (vegetable or canola) to fry the onions. When the oil reaches almost to a 300°F temperature start getting your onions ready for the flour mixture. The oil should be about 360°F to fry these onions.

Takes some of the buttermilk soaked onions and place into the flour mixture to coat. Drop these carefully into the hot oil. Fry until golden brown. Drain onto paper towels.

I served these with a ranch dressing .

  1. Hi Liz: Oh those onions look delicious. I’m not supposed to have fried things, but cheat once in a while by using canola oil. Yes, I was pretty disgusted with the Corrections officer. I hope someone corrects him. Have a great day. HUGS
