"Liz-a-Witch" Halloween Crochet Doll

lizawitch1 Materials:

Size F crochet hook

4 ply worsted weigh yarn in colors of your choice (Black is the main color here and I would suggest about 2+ ounces of yarn.  I didn’t keep track as I was using new skeins) I use Red Heart Super Saver Yarn.

Stitch marker

Yarn needle

Poly-fil-polyester fiberfill to stuff head, body, hands and feet

Hint:  Use beans or pebbles in hands and feet for weight.  This method lets the arms and legs fall naturally.

2 small buttons for dress or your choice of embellishments.

*Click on picture for a larger view to use as a guide.

Directions:

Keep stitches tight.  Stitches are worked in the round.  Do not slip stitch rounds closed.  Keep track of your stitch count by using a stitch marker.

Head:

Make an adjustable ring (details here).

Round 1:  Sc 6 times into ring (6) (place marker at beg. of round and move marker when each round is completed.)

Round 2:  2 sc in each sc (12)

Round 3:  *2 sc in one stitch, then 1 sc*repeat from *to* around (18)

Round 4:  *2 sc in one stitch, the 2 sc* repeat from * to* around (24)

Round 5:  *2 sc in one stitch, the 3 sc* repeat from * to* around (30)

Round 17:  *sc dec, then 3 sc* repeat from * to* around  (24)

Round 18:  *sc dec, then 2 sc* repeat from * to* around  (18) Fasten off leaving a 12 inch chain for sewing.

Stuff head with poly-fil

Body:

Ruffle:

With base facing up, attach yarn to one of the stitches/loops on Round 21 (this is the loop left after sc in back loops of that round.)

Add hair to head:  Cut 6 inch pieces of yarn with your desired color. With dolls face facing you, insert  hook between rounds, make a look with each cut piece and loop onto the hook and pull through.  You can decide on how much or how little you want to use.

Add features to face either by embroidering the face (eyes, nose) using a satin stitch or use buttons or doll eyes.  Use a running stitch for the mouth. Here is a good tutorial for embroidery stitches.

Add buttons to body if desired.

Use your own ideas to embellish ”Liz-a-Witch”.
