Busy Hands

With time away from the blogosphere, I used the crochet thread I had at hand.

Not needing one more doily, I crocheted a mélange of doilies just the same.

On this white doily, I made a big error.  I didn’t realize that I made the error until I was blocking it. Can you spot the error?

A couple of these doilies are duplicates that I crocheted years ago.

Winter Warmings

It’s been a while since I have crocheted.  The last item I crocheted (a couple of months ago) was this pair of gloves/mitts.

There isn’t a written pattern for these. It’s something I had envisioned. They are worked in the round.

As I had mentioned before, I am not good at writing patterns.  Besides, once I make an item, I don’t want to check for errors by remaking it.  I know…sheer laziness.

Towards the end of the day, I have been knitting rather than crocheting.  I am not as proficient when it comes to knitting as I am with crocheting.  When it come to knitting, I am slow and cautious.  Some of my favorite items to knit are socks, dish clothes and a few other easy projects.  In the past, I have knitted sweaters and shawls.  However, I find knitting to be slower than crocheting.  I am so afraid I will drop a stitch.  And, when I do…Aargh!

I started a knitted cowl, but set it aside for now.

I found the pattern at: in the loop.  There is an English version to download.  I love the simplicity of the look and the ease of the pattern.

Another Shawl

Boredom always precedes a period of great creativity.
–Robert M. Pirsig

Well, maybe not a “great” creativity, but some creativity.

Last summer, I tossed out most of my left-over yarn.  However, I saved some skeins that had not been used.

At that time of the clean-out, I was adamant that I would never again pick up a crochet hook. I already had to many finished projects tucked away in drawers.  And besides,  yarn is quite expensive when one’s on a budget.

Days of staring at walls and wondering what to do to pass the time, I gave in and used up some of the saved yarn to make a shawl/shawlette.

I used Premier® Cotton Fair® Solids yarn.

The pattern for this shawl is called the “Morning Has Broken Shawl” and can be found here.

Collar Me Done

I rarely, if ever, wear any of my crochet designs.  I have a couple of drawers where I keep everything that I make. There are only a few things that I do use, like dish cloths, change pouch and a small clutch.  All doilies, that I have crocheted over the years, are all washed and put away.  Until recently, I used to display them around the house on tables.

Knowing that I would never wear a crochet collar or have a need to wear one, I crocheted one regardless.

(This photo was taken outside under covering)

I used size #10 crochet cotton and a #6 crochet hook.

(This photo was taken inside)

The pattern is from an old pamphlet (“Collar-me-Beautiful” by Mary Buse Melick) I had since the 1980’s.

(This photo was taken inside in a different area.  This is closer to the actual color of the collar)

I didn’t know if I should have added a button or leave it as is so that, if worn, it could be secured with a brooch.

This was done right after I finished the dress top.  While I was crocheting it, I wanted to end it, but continued on until it was finished.  It took me about 8 hours over two evening.

Am I Really Finished?

Last year, I was working on a crocheted infant baby dress when I had lost my passion to crochet or for any handiwork.  I put it aside and put it out of my mind.

A couple of weeks ago, I picked it up again and was determined to finish it once and for all. After working on a couple of rows, I again lost the “umph!” to finish.   However, I pressed on and instead of following the direction, I went off on my own a little.

I ended up with just a top and decided to either make the bottom half out of fabric, or find a crocheted skirt pattern that I liked better.

The back is buttoned.  I have pins holding it in place. I have yet to sew on the buttons.

Sheer laziness or something else?

The pattern is from an old issue from Magic Crochet that I found online.

It say that it is sized for a 6 month old, but (after completing the top) it looks bigger.

infant dress

This pattern uses #10 crochet thread and I used a size 6 crochet hook.

Besides handicrafts, I seem to have lost my passion/desire/fondness, or whichever word fits my aloofness at life, for things that were dear to me.

It’s hard to find that spark when depression weighs you down.

It’s A Wrap!

I was never so happy to see a crocheted project end, as I was, when I finished this shawlette.

The pattern is called, South Bay Shawlette by Lion Brand.

For the yarn, I used 100% Suri Brushed Alpaca, fingering yarn (which is now discontinued) and a size F crochet hook.

I love the feel of this yarn. It is light and airy and blocks beautifully.

My frustration came about when I would make a mistake and have to unravel the error. If you didn’t go slowly to unravel, that is when the fun began.  Because this yarn has tiny hairs, the stitches would fuse together with any friction.

Natural fibers have a tendency to do that.

At one point, after finishing a long row, I made a mistake at the beginning and had to sloooooooooooowly and methodically unraveled the whole row.

Grrr!

However, it’s finished and I am happy about that!

Twenty-five years ago, when we had this house built, we didn’t realize that one of the kitchen cabinets would be too small to keep anything in there save herbs and spices.  Then again, it was still too small to hold any significant amount of spices and herbs.  It is only 8 inches wide with three shelves and not very tall or deep (the top shelf had to be reached with a tall stool or chair-not very safe and so inconvenient).  For 25 years, we wrestled with jars in trying to find the one spice that we needed.  We had to take out jars of spices and herbs to find the one that was needed, then put them all back.  Some would fall out onto the counter…it was frustrating!

Finally, we came up with a solution.

This is what we built a couple of weeks ago.

It fits between the refrigerator and wall. It has 4 casters attached to the bottom, and a handle at the end, so it will roll out and back in easily.  After putting all the spices, herbs, etc into it, my spice collection doesn’t look as big as it did in the tiny cabinet.

It makes it so much easier to cook and bake when you can see everything in the front of you.

Adding Color and Cappucini To Life

Last week, I crocheted four mandala-type hot pad.  I tried very carefully not to make two alike. I didn’t know which patterns I was going to use. I just made them up as I went along.

After I finished the first one (the one with the pink yarn), I noticed that it came out in a hex shape. I guess I wasn’t paying close attention when crocheting that one.

I used the cotton yarn, such as Lily Sugar’n Cream, that I had left over and a size F crochet hook.

For the past three days (instead of my afternoon tea) I’ve made cappuccino.

It has been a while since I’ve used our moka pot and the frother.

Today, Tom and I took our cappuccino out to the front stoop, and drank them while enjoying the milder temps. It was an absolutely beautiful day weather-wise.

Tom on the bench, and me in my rocking chair, just taking in the day.

All Warm and Cozy

I had worked on a teapot cozy and wasn’t happy with the outcome.  Last week, I picked it back up and finished it.

For something that I made up in my head, I guess it didn’t turn out too badly.  It fits my one-cup teapot and does keep the tea hot while it steeps.  I used Peaches & Cream cotton yarn.

I do have another idea for a cozy.  If it turns out ok, I will (hopefully) write the pattern down on paper.  I hesitate to write down a pattern.  If I am on a roll, I don’t want to stop to jot down notes.

What usually happens is, “What I see in my head isn’t the same as the outcome”.  Argh!

I had purchased some new blended, signature, teas, Wizard’s Grey and The Evening Star, from Adagio online (sample tins are no longer available).  Both blends were very good, but as for my go-to-tea, I will probably just stick to Earl Grey.

These signature blends are perfect if you wish a treat now and then.  I just don’t want to depend on an online store to keep me stocked in tea.  It’s more convenient to go to the local store if I run out of tea.

A cup of Wizard’s Grey, from Adagio, in my pretty little tea-cup.

I also wanted to share the flatbread that I baked.  I love how it folds without cracking.  I found the recipe for this flatbread at Mel’s Cafe Kitchen.

To go along with the flatbread, I also made mulligatawny soup.

Years ago, after watching “Seinfeld’s” The Soup Nazi episode, I was curious about the recipe and found it online.  It is delicious!  I omit the eggplant and add more of the potato, pistachios and cashews to the pot.

Of course, everything that should be eaten in moderation is what I add more of…of course!

Tapestry, Tea and Whoopie Pies

Over a week ago, I was working on a crochet tea cozy and added some crochet tapestry to the piece.  Not happy with the outcome of that project, I put it aside. However, last weekend, I had an urge to do a little more crocheting.  I decided to use some of my cotton yarn stash to make dishcloths.

My inspiration, for two of these patterns (the tapestry), came from my little tea cozy and Little woolie’s blog. If you are a crafter, Little Woolie is worth checking out.  She has “a love for crafty things, crochet, knitting and yarny makes in particular”.

The other one (yellow and blue) is something I just made up.  It’s just rows of extended single crochet.

The two, on the end, are ‘Flat Tapestry crochet’. If I could use both hands to crochet, the patterns would be sharper. No matter how hard I try, I just cannot crochet using my left hand or crochet backwards.  I want to learn, but on the other hand…

To see what I mean, take a look at this video “Flat Tapestry Crochet by Carol Ventura“.

A while ago, I made these (see photos below) using the tapestry technique.  They are done in the round. Therefore, the patterns are sharper.

I don’t have to use my left hand for tapestry if done in the rounds.

And, to add a little sweetness to our lives, I baked Whoopie Pies.

I filled half with marshmallow (Fluff) and vanilla cream, and half with marshmallow and peanut butter-vanilla cream.  A New England tradition, my mother made these for my sister and me when we were kids.

I purchased some new blended teas from Adagio online.  My purchases were these two sample tins along with a couple of Earl Grey pouch blends.

It is time for my afternoon pick-me-up.  I am off to make a cup tea.  I think I will try the Wizard’s Grey.  I am hoping it is as good as it sounds.

Afternoon Tea

Between two and three in the afternoon, I find myself totally exhausted.  Between those times, I make myself a cup of hot tea in a pretty little cup with a saucer.  As I take in the aroma of fragrant bergamot and sip the bold flavors, I ponder about the days ago or the days to go. It’s a chance for me to indulge in a few moments of peaceful bliss in a ladylike fashion.

Pinkies out, please!

Very rarely do I eat something while I take tea.  But, the other day,  I made orange cream scones to go along with tea.

Delicious!

The flavor of the citrusy, orange bergamot in the tea and the orange (peel) in the scone paired together nicely.  This scone has a touch of sweetness and didn’t need a jam or butter to enhance the flavor.

The other evening I crocheted tiny hearts adding little glass beads to the end tips. I wanted to make a nice long streamer. Again, I got bored with making tiny hearts (as I do with anything that has to do with crocheting lately), and ended up with a tiny, ugly little streamer.

I nominate this little, heart streamer as “what not to crochet“.

Put the hook down and just walk away!

By Hook Or Cook

I promised myself that before days turn into months, I would make an effort to post now and again.

Therefore, here is an account of the past few day.

The doily (unblocked) is finished.

I was so glad to see an end to this doily.  More than a few times, I wanted to put it aside and forget about it.  I was getting bored and couldn’t find a purpose as to why I was crocheting another one of these.  The pattern is called ‘Swirl’ from the  Leisure Arts Round Doilies leaflet.

On Saturday, I made french bread,

cooked my chili con carne,

and with the leftover almond paste (from the bear claws I made last week), I baked almond biscotti.

Moving on…

We haven’t seen the sun in a few of days.  It is so dreary outside.  Which in turn, makes me feel dreary. There are a few things I want to do around the house, but I fear that I will create the ‘snowball effect’.  So, in turn, I do nothing.

What is it that I want to do?

One has to have something to look forward to.

What is that something?

If everyday is just another day waiting, then one has wasted life.

Waiting for a life is not living life, but merely existing.

Do you merely exist?

Keeping Busy

Last night and today I drew flags/banners using some backgrounds I found around the web.  I made a few of them, using different patterns, and adding little push tacks to the ends.  I have no idea how I am going to use them.  But, they were fun to make and design and it keeps me busy.

flag-banner

The patterns on the flag above, and at the end, are from the talented Shery K Designs.  She has some beautiful patterns over at her site.  A big thanks go to those who share their talent, with others.

Instead of making flags/banners, I should have crocheted more on the doily I had started a few days ago. Truth be told, I am having a hard time seeing the stitches. I think it is because of the color. Red isn’t an easy color to pick up with a camera, I imagine it is just as hard on the eyes-or not.

Because my sister had mentioned that she ate pickled beets the other day,  I had to have some pickled beets.

Me too, me too!

Yesterday, I made a jar and added hard boiled eggs like my father used to do when we were kids. They are good as a snack or for lunch.

As you can see, I like lots of ground black pepper.

It hasn’t been a very exciting couple of day.  At least, they haven’t been filled with stress. For that, I am grateful.

Mosaic 2014 Crochet

To kick-off the new year, I updated my header/banner by adding a few more graphics that I had drawn, years back, using my old psp7 program.  I am hoping that the difference will inspire me to blog more often.

I put pictures of the crochet items that I had crocheted throughout the year into a mosaic. I noted that I had crocheted many small items throughout the year. However, it is inspiring to see the things that I did accomplish.

1. Valentine Dishcloth or Potholder, 2. Potholders/Dish Cloths, 3. Heart Dish Cloths, 4. Child’s Poncho, 5. Floral Banner, 6. Little Trinket Boxes, 7. Vintage Pot Holder, 8. It had three months since I last picked up a crochet hook.  Today, I started crocheting a doily.  It’s not like I need any more doilies, it is just that I kind of missed crocheting.  My intentions were to finish an afghan that I had started, but I quickly got bored with that and put it back into the crochet ‘dead hole’.

I hope 2015 will be a much better year for all of us.

Thank you for visiting!

Crochet Shawlette or Scarf?

When I buy yarn, that I am not familiar with, I like to touch it and see how it looks. I have never purchased yarn online that wasn’t familiar to me. However, for the longest time, I have been wanting to crochet with a cotton/acrylic blend. I found some (online) that wasn’t too expensive and had a good amount of yardage and purchase a few skeins. It wasn’t what I expected, but I did like the feel of it and knew that it would drap beautifully. The brand was ‘Premier® Cotton Fair® Solids and Multis Yarn

I envisioned a scarf of shawl. I found a cute pattern for a shawlette/scarf online and decide to crochet one.

I didn’t use the border that was suggested in the pattern, I wanted to make mine a little different.

The two photos below are before I added the floral embellishments.

I do like this pattern. It was a simply easy pattern, which turned out beautifully.

You can find the pattern over at Zooty Owl’s Crafty Blog-Road Trip Scarves. Thank you Zooty Owl, for a wonderful pattern.

Crocheted Brooches and Autumn Banner

A few weeks ago, I was inspired to crochet a couple of brooches.

I used #10 crochet thread, an old button that I had, some ribbon and some bobbles and beads.

As you can see, I was trying out ‘color schemes’.  I think the five colors go together quite well.

For the rose brooch, I used #3 crochet thread and some pearl beads.

I sewed felt and a hinged pin to the back of each brooch.

I think brooches look so pretty and feminine.

I have a few more designs swirling around in my head.  I am just too lazy to make these ideas a reality.

Autumn is nearly upon us, and I am looking forward to the cooler weather. Here, where I live, we won’t be feeling any cool, crisp air for a couple of months or more.  However, I still like to put little things around the house in celebration of autumn.

Last year I made a little “Happy Autumn” banner/streamer and posted the template.

If you would like to make one or just to see the post click here or click on the photo.  The banner/streamer is made with light-weight card stock, ribbon and laminate.

A Mélange of Frivolity

Because I haven’t felt well for the past few days, I haven’t been doing any crocheting. I am experiencing fatigue. My body and brain is so drained. I have been laying about and sleeping without feeling refreshed.

I did manage to make some homemade croutons for the tossed salad we had for dinner. I made a half recipe today with some leftover Italian bread that I had frozen. I only had a little extra virgin olive oil on hand.  You certainly can use regular olive oil, but extra virgin is sooooooooooooo good. But, it is very expensive and I don’t buy it often. It has become a luxury around here.

Cheesy Garlic Croutons

  • 2 cups of day old bread cut into 1-inch cubes (use a hearty bread such as an Italian bread, french Bread, European Peasant Bread, etc).
  • 3 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder (more or less according to how much garlic flavor you want)
  • Good grinding of black pepper
  • 1/4 cup grated parmesano-reggiano cheese.

Place bread cubes into a large food type plastic bag or bowl. Drizzle olive oil all over cubes, toss the cubes and the oil, sprinkle garlic powder, pepper and cheese on top of mixture and toss/mix well. Place mixture onto a cookie sheet and toast in a 175°F oven until lightly toasted on all side for about 15-20 minutes.

I kept the oven temperature low so that the cubes would slowly toast.

And this morning, I made a batch of-what I call-tropical bran muffins. I add cubed dried mango, papaya, pineapple, dates, coconut, etc. to the bran muffins. I like cold, bran muffins right out of the refrigerator. I don’t like them warm.

Weird? I know!

It’s only bran muffins that I like cold.  All other muffins I like warm and buttery.

In the mornings when I don’t feel like eating, but my stomach won’t stop growling, these muffins are just the thing to stop the gnawing.

Last week I bought a couple of books.  In between my sleep-fest, I have been reading. These books weren’t too expensive, and I know that times are tough and when the books came, I felt so guilty for spending the money.

enchanted april

A while back, I read, “Elizabeth and Her German Garden” by the same author as “The Enchanted April“.  On the one hand, I associated with Elizabeth’s need for solitude.  So far, on the other hand, I can associate with these women’s needs and wants in “The Enchanted April“.

The author of those two books also wrote “Mr. Skeffington“.  Warner Brothers made it into a movie in 1944 starring Bette Davis and Claude Reins. I just watched it recently on my Amazon Fire TV.

“A woman is beautiful when she’s loved, and only then.   –Mr. Skeffington

Bette Davis was one of my favorite actresses when I was a kid.

The other book, I remorsefully purchased,  and wanted to read for the longest time is-

A Little Liveliness and A Cat Nap

Every once in a while we need a little change. We need something new and different to keep our lives interesting and inspiring.  Something as simple as a colorful, crocheted pincushion can bring a little liveliness and happiness to my life.

With some cotton, #3 thread, I crocheted a new home for my yarn and common needles.

It looks like a pretty, little hat.  It makes me happy to see the vibrant colors.  It inspires me to create and surround myself with more brilliant hues in an otherwise drab life.

loose fear

I took a couple of pictures of my little buddies, Frankie (the little one) and Luna.

I have never experienced two cats that get along so well.

Not once, have I seen or heard any aggression from either one of them. They aren’t always this calm. When they play chase and tag, they can rock the house.

Hanging Crochet Owls

I have a fondness for whimsical owls.  I have seem some really cute, decorative owls around the web and I wanted to crochet one to hang in the kitchen.

Having many beads, buttons, and sparkly notions, I crocheted the one below.

The owl is a combination of patterns I have seen around the web and one I crocheted two years ago (Sunflower Owl).

For this hanging owl, I used Lily’s Sugar ‘N Cream Cotton.  I attached a hanger using seed beads, jewelry wire and jump rings.  On the back, I sewed a piece of felt in the shape of the owl to give it a clean finish.

Then from “Bunny Mummy“, I crocheted this little guy using Aunt Lydia’s #3 crochet thread.

Using thread rather than worsted weight yarn, the little owl is smaller than a steel crochet hook.

I promised that I would bake cookies today. Therefore, I better get away from this page and get busy in the kitchen.

Wishing you all a happy weekend!

Teassert and Crochet

On most day, late in the afternoon, I make a small pot or a cup of tea. One of my go-to-teas is Earl Grey. It’s one of the perfect afternoon teas.

“The aromatic bergamot adds a refined, tart citrus, taste.”

It awaken my senses and soothes my soul.

I saw a recipe, online, for Earl Grey cupcakes with Lemon Buttercream frosting and got busy baking.

Delicious!

The lemon buttercream is the perfect accompaniment to the fragrant, citrus bergamot flavor.

You can find the recipe at “Foodie With Family“.

I crocheted another vintage-type pot holder using Aunt Lydia’s #3 crochet thread.

I enjoy crocheting vintage-type pot holders. Although, I don’t use them as “pot holders”,  I think they would look pretty displayed on a kitchen wall.

Maybe, someday, I will do just that.

She’s Back!

After two years of hosting my own site, I have decided to come back, here, to wordpress.com.  Although I loved having the freedom of using plugins and making my site my own, it was tiring keeping up with all the updates, maintenance and backups I had to do to keep it secure and running.  I have kept my domain-sayverysweetthings.com.  So, if you click on sayverysweetthings.com, you will be re-directed here to Say-very Sweet Things at nonnaluna.wordpress.com.

I did buy the WordPress.com Premium that is offered here, but I still have to decide if I want to add a registered domain name for here.  I am not sure if one site can have two different redirects. It is frustrating when you can’t talk to anyone to ask.

All of my logos will still display “sayverysweetthings.com”/”Say-very Sweet Things“.

In the meantime…

I saw this pattern for a tartan dishcloth over at “Happy Berry’s” and had to crochet one to add to my collection of crocheted dishcloths.

Before I made the dishcloth, I crocheted one big and one small medallion/mandela. The small medallion I used #3 crochet thread and add small bead to the edge.

For the larger medallion and the dishcloth, I used Lily Sugar ‘n Cream cotton.

Click Crochet Tartan Plaid Wash Cloths to find the pattern for the dishcloth.

Crochet Vintage Pot Holders

I love to crocheting vintage-style pot holders .

Although, I have been feeling down-in-the-dumps as of late.  However, these are three of my recent creations to show.

Wistful Thinking

I couldn’t help myself.

I saw some crochet thread stored away and something inside of me was nostalgically compelled to crochet. I guess it is just in me to crochet. I have been doing it all of my life.  It is a part of me.

To satisfy my need for hooking, I crocheted these two baskets-

I added a decorative design and beads to the top of the cover.

It’s not like I don’t have enough of these baskets already.

My passion for crafting and crocheting is gnawing at me.

Having so many ideas I have become manic. wink

Since yarn and other crafting supplies are so expensive, I need to sell some product in order to purchase yarn and supplies in order to satisfy my mania.

Phew!

It is all about confidence (which I sorely lack). Having confidence in oneself helps one to succeed.

Bread, Thread and Sauce That’s Red

I changed my site around a little by adding a background I made (using psp7) and changing some of the css. My blog was looking cluttered. I got rid of some of the sidebar contents and made some little social icons-using templates I found online-to replace the content that I took down. I still have a little more tweeking here and there to do.  Then maybe, I will just leave well enough alone.

“La donna è mobile.”

It has been one frustrating endeavor to put meals on the table as I had mentioned in an earlier posting. Pricing being a factor then compound that with trying to find the ingredients you need for a recipe in the grocery stores.

Yesterday, we made a large, basic spaghetti sauce/marinara sauce, meatballs with Italian sausage. I can get two meals plus enough of the sauce to freeze for pizza, etc. for another time.

Tom and Brian had spaghetti-

and I had penne.

I love spaghetti, but spaghetti doesn’t agree with me-I just can’t seem to digest it since my two stomach surgeries.

Tonight, I am baking bread using a recipe (Italian Semolina Bread) from this book

The recipe calls for semolina flour, of course, the grocery stores here don’t sell pasta flour/semolina flour here (I was hard pressed to find rye flour until I saw that they stocked it in the ethnic section in 2 lb. bags only.  It is some off-brand, organic type that I never heard of before) I had to order-the semolina flour- online from Amazon-FREE SHIPPING. A 2 lb. bag cost 11 cents an ounce, which is cheap enough, but the downside is that for that price I had to buy 6 bags. We wrapped the other 5 bags and put them in the freezer for later use.

As I had mentioned, my passion for crocheting or crafting had waned. However, the other day I came across a crochet project I had worked on and picked it up again a couple of weeks ago. It’s an infant dress crocheted using #20 cotton thread. I just about have the yoke complete-

Yet, for some unknown reason, I have put it aside again. I want to finish it, but I just can’t seem to settle in one place-my mind wanders all over the place.

But, hey!  At the very least we’ll have bread and pasta.

It Takes A Village Idiot

It takes a village idiot to keep posting about things that are of no interest to others.  Hence, my post complete with a village.

Another folk-type sketch I did in pencil-

Then, from the drawing-using my paint shop program-I drew this, “Daytime in the Village”.

Adjusting the brightness and contrasts, adding a few more touches and omitting the hills,  it becomes a nighttime scene.

Less Confusion Equals Less Stress

Continuing with my quest for simplicity and harmony-

The other day I got my kitchen drawers cleaned out and organized along with a couple of cabinets.

Today, some computer files, bookmarks, and flash drives, pertaining to all things crochet and crafting,  were deleted.

Poof!  Gone!

Less confusion=less stress.

The other day while cleaning out the closet in my computer room, I found a book tucked way back on a shelf. I had forgotten that I even had it.

bronte-5

It contains five complete novels by Charlotte and Emily Bronte:

  • Jane Eyre
  • Shirley
  • Wuthering Heights
  • Villette
  • The Professors

It looks like I found my summer reading.  Although I have already read Wuthering Heights, I am looking forward to the other four novels.

While I still have more to do with “simplifying”,  today was a pretty relaxing day.  I made a large pot of chili con carne and hubby put together a huge tossed salad.  While the chili was simmering, I sat on the front stoop, in my rocker, and read for a while.

Right now I am reading , Of Human Bondage by W. Somerset Maugham. I started reading it a while ago, but put it down as I had too much on my mind and couldn’t concentrate on the words.  I saw the movie when I was a child and forget most of it and I know that a movie will never do the book justice.

In spite of the fact that I am still feeling pensive, I am off to make a cup of tea and happily ponder about the coming days ahead.  Hanging on to a little hope is what keeps me wanting to go forward.

It Just Makes Me Happy

Striving For Simplicity

Taking my time, I have been ridding myself of things and stuff that have accumulated in my home. I envision a life of simplicity. I want to walk into a room and not be overwhelmed with needless stuff. When my surroundings are full of needless things, my mind becomes cluttered. When my mind is cluttered, I shut down.

As close as two months ago, I was an avid crocheter-crocheting things that served absolutely no useful purpose for me or others. I was crocheting so that I would have something to post and hoping at the same time that others, who also crocheted, would notice.

Alas and alack!  It was just never meant to be.

I shamefully slobbered over other crocheter’s blogs.  I left little comments telling them how wonderfully talented they were and how much I appreciated all the time and work it takes to create an item. I answered all email inquiries about a pattern that I had posted or one that I wasn’t sharing with the public.  I finally decided to lay all that aside and relax. I was crocheting for all for the wrong reasons and was finding it very tiring and time-consuming. Crocheting was quickly becoming a chore and an unaffordable expense. My home became cluttered with “all things crochet”. All the while, neglecting other things that I enjoy doing.

Therefore, taking my time, I am packing-up and tossing-out all things relating to crafting.  At this time, I have no interest in perusing anything to do with designing or fiber art.

Onward to the next phase of my life!

Life Is About Choices

expectation

Life is about choices.

If I choose to let the value of my worth be determined by others, then I cannot move on.

As we approach the “Autumn of our Lives” we think about the most important things in life. Whatever I have been doing in the past is only making me depressed and confused. Time is so short and what is left of this life I must be true to myself and rid myself of sadness caused by the lack of interest by others.

My accomplishments have been achieved in vain. I have gathered and accumulated tools and materials to produce and amass a stockpile of useless things. Again, all done in vain.

Therefore, I am going to focus on the latter part of my life and rid myself of the weight of useless possessions, obsessions and competitions. I am going to be true to myself and return to simplicity, individualism, nonconformity.

I have never been one to follow a crowd for the sake of acceptance. However, in the last few years I have searched for acceptance and approval. I am finished seeking approval and acknowledgement from those who thrive on approval and acknowledgement.

My self-worth comes from me and not from others. Or, does it?
